What I Like

Automated thread tension and thread trimmer control
You can control the thread tension by turning a dial.
It also comes with a thread trimmer, which clips the upper and lower threads with just a touch of a button.

Adjustable Features
This sewing comes built for adjustments specific to each project. You can adjust the feed dogs to either create a free arm or adjust the foot height. This will make it easier to adjust to different thicknesses of materials.
You can also adjust the needle position using the hand-wheel control placed on the side of the swimming machine.
All these adjustments are easy to make with either knob or handles. These adjustments make it easy to customize your sewing machine to fit the project you are doing.

Extension table
The PQ1500SL comes with a throat space of 9″ inches to help work with large fabric smoothly.
You can even effortlessly work on a queen-sized quilt with this throat space.
It also comes with a 12″ x 18″ inches extension table to provide you a large workspace for large fabrics.
The table is sturdy, so you will not have to worry about vibrations even when the machine works at high speed.

What I Dislike

Not beginner-friendly
The PQ1500SL is for intermediate to advanced seamstress.  There are no automatic or bulit-in stitches to make this sewing machine easier to use.
This means that learning and getting used to this machine takes time. If you plan to purchase the PQ1500SL, you should be prepared for a steep learning curve if you are a beginner.

Only comes with a straight stitch
The PQ1500SL only has a straight stitch function. This machine is not for you if you want to experiment with various stitches like the overcasting, zigzag, or buttonholes.

No Automated speed control:
The sewing machine doesn’t have an automatic speed control function. You will have to use the foot pedal to control the sewing speed, which can be a cumbersome task for some.
TIP: Try using the foot pedal with bare feet for better control.
Positives
Comes with a large throat area and plenty of workspaces
Works smoothly on heavy fabrics
Automatic threading and trimming functions
Impressive stitch speed at 1500 SPM
Flexible and can be used for sewing and quilting
Negatives
Steep learning curve
No automated speed control feature
Poor lighting
Bulky and heavy makes this machine not portable
Only straight stitch option

Who Should buy

PQ1500SL comes with power-packed features and impressive speed, making it an excellent choice for anyone looking for a quality sewing and quilting machine.
But, because of its complicated set-up, I recommend this more for experts and advanced sewer and quilters.
It could also be an ideal choice for beginners who are willing to go through the learning curve and take their hobby to the next level.

Amazon price updated: November 30, 2024 4:57 pm

What I Like

Compact and lightweight:
The SE2000 is fairly lightweight at 11 pounds and easy to carry around with ease. It also comes with a hard shell cover with a convenient handle, which helps easy transportation.

Beginner-friendly:
The sewer is completely automated and super easy to use. It also has an impressive list of built-in stitches and easy to access functions for convenience.
It also has an automatic needle threader function for effortless threading even during multiple thread changes.

Built-in LED lights:
The SE2000 is provided with high-quality LED lights that light up the work area, perfect enough for effortless sewing.
The lights are bright and you will not require any extra lighting. You can work on intrinsic designs with perfect ease and comfort.

Built-in stitches:
The sewer comes with 77 built-in stitches that provide you limitless options to work according to your project need. It also comes with five styles of one-step buttonholes to choose from.

What I Dislike

No Speed Control:
The SE2000 works at a speed of 850 SPM, which is quite impressive compared to the other models that come at this price range.
However, the shortfall lies in the fact that there is no speed control system in the sewer, which can be a massive disadvantage for beginners.

Presser foot pressure non-adjustable:
The presser foot pressure cannot be modified, and this is a big drawback because the sewer might need to work with various fabrics that might work better with varied pressures.
Not ideal for advanced users:
The advanced sewers can find this model to be too basic and lack advanced features. This model is not designed for heavy sewing needs.
Positives
Beginner-friendly
Handles multiple layers and tough fabrics
Compact and lightweight
Quiet
Monogramming possible
Modifiable needle position
Comes with loads of accessories
LED display
Automated needle threader function
Negatives
Zipper foot cannot be adjusted
Non-modifiable presser foot pressure
Low-quality built-in lamp
Non-compatible with other bobbin models
Speed control is not available
Too basic for advanced users

Who Should buy

The Brother SE2000 is a great beginner sewing machine at an affordable price.
It works at an amazing speed of 850 SPM, far more than the speed range available in the models at this price range.
If you are looking for a good sewing machine, this one’s for you.

What I Like

Speed Control
It stitches at 850 SPM. You can adjust this speed using the speed slider.
Speed control is highly useful for beginners who want to start at low speeds.

Automatic Functions
You can adjust thread tension by turning a wheel forward or backward.
With the automatic needle threader, the HC1850 can get your needle threaded in just seconds.

Built-in stitches
The HC1850 comes with 130 built-in stitches.
There are 14 quilt stitches, 42 garment stitches, 12 heirloom stitches, 94 decorative stitches, and eight one-step buttonholes.
It also has one monogramming font, and not to mention the 55 alpha-numeric monogramming sewing fonts.

What I Dislike

Limited Monogram options
The HC1850 only comes with one built-in monogramming font. You cannot modify the font size either.

Limited option for power adaptors
You will need an a120V power adaptor to use this machine, which can be limiting.

No Auto thread trimmer functions
It doesn’t come with an automatic thread trimmer system. You will have to pull the thread to the machine’s thread cutter every time you want to trim the thread.

A bit flimsy
The sewer weighs just 10.1 lbs since it’s made of lightweight plastic. This is a major drawback for those looking for a sturdy sewing machine.
You might also need a separate case to protect your sewer as it needs to be handled with care.
Positives
Beginner-friendly
Pretty straightforward to set up
Convenient speed control for effective maneuverability
130 built-in stitches and 55 alphanumeric functions for efficient jobs
Affordable
Negatives
So lightweight, it feels fragile
No automatic thread trimming function
Not suitable for large quilting tasks
Only one monogramming font available

With 130 built-in stitches, loads of accessories, automatic features and a huge workspace, this is a sure winner.
