Does Viscose Wrinkle?

viscose clothes with label

Yes. Viscose wrinkles very easily. This fabric has a silky smooth, luxurious fabric, but it’s very susceptible to wrinkles. This is one of the fabric’s majors disadvantages.

Leaving viscose in a folded or balled-up position for a few minutes will cause the wrinkles to settle into the fabric.

Since this fabric is so delicate, it takes more effort than most fabrics to ensure that it does not wrinkle. To prevent wrinkles on viscose, you need to take the proper steps ahead of time.

Is Viscose Wrinkle-Resistant?

No. Viscose is not wrinkle- resistant. It’s often thought to be wrinkle-resistant because it’s confused for rayon.

While viscose is a type of rayon, it doesn’t have the wrinkle-resistance that other types of rayon have.

This is mainly due to two reasons. The first is that viscose is a much more delicate and soft fabric than other types of rayon. The second reason is that viscose is typically knitted or woven together. This makes it easier to wrinkle than other types of rayon.

Does Viscose Wrinkle Easily?

Yes. Compared to many other fabrics viscose wrinkles easily and often. To avoid wrinkles on viscose, you need to be very careful with your position and leave the fabric.

Two common fabrics that wrinkle easily and often are cotton and silk. Viscose is comparable to these fabrics, but it actually wrinkles more often than both of these fabrics.

Does Viscose Wrinkle When Washed?

Yes. Viscose will get wrinkled in the washer. You can take steps to reduce the wrinkles when you take them out of the washer.

In most cases, you don’t want to place viscose in the washer, to begin with. It’s typically recommended that you hand wash or dry clean viscose to prevent damage.

If you wash viscose, one of the main reasons it gets wrinkled in the washer is agitation. While most fabrics like cotton will also get wrinkled in the washer, the wrinkles will disappear once you place them in the dryer.

Unfortunately, you can’t put viscose in the dryer or else it will get damaged. This is the main reason that viscose comes out of the washer wrinkled.

Does Linen Viscose Blend Wrinkle?

Yes. Linen and viscose blend fabrics wrinkle, but it does wrinkle less than 100% viscose. Blending viscose and linen does make the fabric softer and easier to work with.

Since linen is more durable and less prone to wrinkles blending them, it is less prone to wrinkles overall. The more you combine linen with viscose, the less it will wrinkle. It will also typically lose some of its softness.

Does Polyester Viscose Blend Wrinkle?

Yes. Polyester and viscose blend fabrics wrinkle but much less than 100% viscose. It will still wrinkle since some portion of it will be viscose.

Combining any fabric with polyester will give it all the features that make polyester great. This includes wrinkle resistant, shrink resistant, stretchy, and durable. The more polyester in the fabric blend, the more wrinkle-resistant the fabric will become.

Does 100% Viscose Crease?

100% viscose does crease. Similar to satin, when viscose is folded, it will crease very easily. Unfortunately, even if viscose is folded for a short period, it will start to crease.

In some cases, creases are more difficult to remove from 100% viscose than wrinkles. This is because creases tend to get deep into the fabric.

Quick Tutorial on How To Get Rid Of Creases

How To Get Rid Of Creases
There are a few different ways you can remove creases when dealing with viscose. It’s important you apply these techniques properly to avoid damaging viscose.
Ironing Out The Creases

Using a steam iron

If you have a vertical or handheld steamer at home, they’re a real lifesaver. All you need to do is set it to a delicate mode and steam the creases away.  If you’re using a handheld steamer or the steaming option of your regular irons, here’s what you should do. First, you have to turn the item inside out.

Slide the hem of your material through the iron board and make sure it’s flat out. If your garment is completely dry, prepare a spray with distilled water.  It would help if you spritzed the wrinkles before steaming them. If your material is straight from the wash and still damp, there shouldn’t be any problem.

When you start steaming, make sure that you keep moving back and forth and don’t focus on a certain creased section. You don’t wish to cause irreparable holes in the item.

Using a flat iron

Suppose you don’t have a steamer or steaming option. It’s okay to use a regular iron. Set up the iron board by placing a clean towel or aluminum foil. Some regular irons have a specific dial for delicates such as wool, satin, and rayon. You have to choose that or use the lowest heat option.

Your material still needs to be damp and turned inside out. Grab a light-colored pressing cloth or any thin cloth to cover the creases. Start working on the wrinkles in inconspicuous areas like pockets or collars. Work on the larger areas like the chest after.

After ironing, resist the urge to wear it right away. Let it breathe and dry completely by hanging.

Use A Blow Dryer

Are you in a hotel room feeling helpless about the wrinkles of your Viscose? If you think there’s no hope, one item can still save you. Look for the hairdryer and secure your garment in a sturdy anchor. You have to use bottled water to spray the creases.

Fire up the blow dryer and have it a few inches distance from the material. Like steaming, make sure that you don’t stay in one section for too long. It still poses a risk of burning the item.

Use A Hair Straightener

Your innocent hair straighteners can also work miracles. It’s even better if you’re dealing with a button-down polo because you can squeeze it between the spaces.

It’s another hack I do enjoy myself. What you need to remember is to clean the iron plates first. If you don’t, the stains can transfer from the iron to your Viscose, and that’ll be a different problem to solve. Simple rubbing alcohol can do the trick.

Adjust the heat to the lowest possible and pinch the creases.

Steam Bath

As I pointed out, steam is your best friend. Any form of it is helpful, even the one trapped inside your bathroom. So, if you’re rushing for a busy day, you can hang the wrinkled Viscose inside while you take a hot shower.

The trapped steam can even out the creases. One reminder for you is to avoid getting any soap or water on the garment. The only drawback I got from this method is that I wasted a lot of water. It isn’t the ideal method because we want to conserve as much as we all can.

Use A Wrinkle Remover Spray

This is a spray that will remove the creases from your fabric. These sprays work great for softer creases and wrinkles rather than deep creases.

All you have to do is apply a light mist to the surface of the fabric. Let the wrinkle remover spray sit and then gently press the fabric to remove any remaining wrinkles.

Does Viscose Wrinkle Easily?

Compared to many other fabrics viscose does wrinkle very easily. Viscose will wrinkle if it’s in a folded or crunched position for a few minutes.

It’s important that you take precautions to avoid viscose from getting wrinkles. Viscose will wrinkle when wet, dry, folded, handing, or crunched up.

Does Woven Viscose Wrinkle?

Woven viscose will wrinkle the same just like knitted viscose. The type of viscose will have little impact on the amount that the fabric wrinkles.

Although woven viscose does have looser bonds than knitted bonds, it will not affect the wrinkle factor.

How Do You Keep Viscose From Wrinkling?

There are a few things you can do to prevent viscose from wrinkling. The easiest thing you can do to keep viscose from wrinkling is to use a viscose blend.

Combining viscose with a fabric that is resistant to wrinkling will help it wrinkle less. A few fabric blending options include polyester, linen, and satin. Any other fabric that wrinkles less will also work.

Another way to prevent viscose from wrinkling is to hand it and avoid folding it or leaving it crunched up. You can also prevent wrinkles by avoiding getting viscose wet or placing it in the washer. Viscose should be dry-cleaned or hand washed gently.

Can You Use The Dryer To Unwrinkle A Viscose?

There’s a great chance that your Viscose garments wrinkle after wash. You might be thinking if you can put in a dryer to even out the creases.

The good news is it can work as an easy fix. What you need to prepare is a clean damp towel to go along with your Viscose. A smaller kitchen towel or washcloth is okay if you’re dealing with a single item.

Spin the machine quickly for about 10 minutes using its highest heat option. The towel’s moisture will evaporate, and its steam will even out the creases out from your Viscose.

You want to remove the items as soon as the spin finishes to develop new creases. Please give it a little shake and you can either store or wear it.

Is It Necessary To Iron Viscose?

Wrinkles don’t always mean you have to iron the material. You might even notice that the garment care instructions don’t encourage ironing. It’s sensitive material, so if you’re chilling in the house for a day off, there’s no need to iron out the piece. As I said, heat and Viscose don’t like each other.

If you’re in tight situations, proceed ironing cautiously. Balance the temperature and your strokes to achieve better results. Staying in one area doesn’t mean you can even out the problems fast. It will only cause you more problems. Scorch marks are even harder to deal with. Avoid ironing without a pressing cloth. It’s your material’s protection from the heat of iron.

Can You Prevent The Wrinkles From Happening?

If you want a wrinkle-free garment, don’t go for a Viscose fabric. It’s a fact that you have to face. Although there are ways that you can try to minimize the creasing of your items.

Add sizing : The first on your list is to find a Viscose with sizing treatment. Manufacturers add this solution to protect the surface from too many creases.
Pick the right blend : If you wish to have fewer wrinkles, the other part of the combination should be wrinkle-resistant. I recommend using a viscose polyester blend.
Consider a different Rayon : If you can’t stand your item’s creases, there are other Rayon types you can buy, like the Modal. It’s more expensive, but it wrinkles less compared to your Viscose.
Avoid overactivity : It’s best if you wear your Viscose on your more stationary events. When there’s less movement, there are fewer creases. It’s that simple. This tip is a bit old-fashion, but you have to act as if you’re a Victorian lady. Make sure it’s flat out when you sit. I know it’s more comfortable but don’t cross your legs.
Dry your body : This tip is basic but easy to forget. Sometimes when we’re in a rush, we forget that the tiny droplets after bathing can still ruin the material. Make sure that you are dried before you touch a Viscose garment. If you applied a body lotion, let your skin completely absorb it first or dab some tissue to remove the moisture.
Pack it tight : This tip is for those who travel a lot. If you happen to include a Viscose garment on your outfit, make sure that it sits on the bottom of your suitcase. There will be less movement, so the risk of having it wrinkled is also minimal.
Store it properly : If you aren’t using it anytime soon, secure moisture-free storage. You can put it inside a sealed plastic container for a short period. You have to consider putting it in a cotton canvas bag if you’ll be storing it longer.

In Conclusion

Viscose is a delicate and luxurious fabric with a major disadvantage of being prone to wrinkles. While it may be compared to other fabrics like cotton and silk, it wrinkles more easily, making it essential to take extra care in handling and maintaining the fabric. To prevent wrinkles, it’s recommended to use viscose blends with wrinkle-resistant fabrics like polyester or linen, and avoid folding or leaving the fabric crunched up.

When it comes to washing and drying, viscose should ideally be hand washed or dry cleaned to avoid damage and wrinkles caused by agitation in the washing machine. Since viscose cannot be placed in the dryer, alternative methods like using a steamer, blow dryer, or wrinkle remover spray can help remove creases without causing harm to the fabric.

Ironing viscose should be done cautiously, using a pressing cloth and balancing the temperature and strokes to avoid scorch marks. Remember that heat and viscose do not go well together, so only iron when necessary.

By taking proper care of viscose and following these tips, you can maintain the fabric’s smooth and luxurious appearance while minimizing the occurrence of wrinkles.
